This is my last post about aws VPC. In this post I will explain how to configure aws VPC DHCP options and use it with your configured VPCs. When we create a new VPC in aws , a new DHCP options is set and associated with the VPC and this set only says us to use AmazonProvidedDNS servers. But if we want to use our DNS server , we have to create our own DHCP options set. For example, we may want to use Active Directory in our VPC and want to use our local DNS server running on our domain controllers. Another option is using a open source dns server like bind and configure it.
Let’s start to create our DHCP options. In “Create DHCP Options Set” wizard we have to give a name tag to our set. Other options are also should be completed as below.
After we create our option set , we have to associate it with a VPC.
Remember that you don’t have to restart/relaunch your instances in this VPC. All of them will get the new settings within a few hours.
